What Is an AI Proof-of-Value Engagement?
An AI proof-of-value (POV) engagement is a time-boxed delivery sprint — typically 4–8 weeks — that produces a working AI system on a specific, pre-defined enterprise use case. The output is not a prototype, a demo, or a slide deck. It is a functional system processing real data and generating measurable, validated outputs.
The purpose of a proof-of-value is to answer two questions before significant capital is committed: Does this use case actually work with our data and systems? And does the AI output change how decisions are made or work is done?
A well-executed proof-of-value creates an evidence-based decision point: scale the system to production, refine and iterate, or stop. This is fundamentally different from a pilot program — which is often open-ended — or a proof-of-concept — which typically uses synthetic data and is not intended for production use.
